The title is a play on the Van Gogh picture and an Alkaline Trio lyric, I think though I can’t remember the exact song so it might not be. I’ve just got a snippet of a song playing in my head when I read the title, so I think it probably is. This picture was made by mixing a few pictures that been messed with or run through filters and with a bit of masking and the like in GIMP. 2560×1440.
I found this poem recently, The Old Astronomer to His Pupil by Sarah Williams. I really liked the last two lines and they fit so perfectly, I felt, with the picture I had just finished working on that I combined them into something that I hope looks nice. Just a note, I know the text is a bit hard to read on a browser, but if you actually look at the image at something close to full size it’s perfectly readable. I’m putting the quote at the bottom for those of you who are too lazy. I put this picture together with GIMP it started off in a whole different direction, but eventually came to this.
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
– Sarah Williams
