I found this poem recently, The Old Astronomer to His Pupil by Sarah Williams. I really liked the last two lines and they fit so perfectly, I felt, with the picture I had just finished working on that I combined them into something that I hope looks nice. Just a note, I know the text is a bit hard to read on a browser, but if you actually look at the image at something close to full size it’s perfectly readable. I’m putting the quote at the bottom for those of you who are too lazy. I put this picture together with GIMP it started off in a whole different direction, but eventually came to this.
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
– Sarah Williams
All I did for this picture is take the girl from a smaller photo and put it onto a wallpaper sized background – oh and maybe added a tiny bit to it. Image is 2560×1440 and all of my work was done in GIMP.
